The Serrano culvert in the Great Park Community of Irvine, CA is one of many drainage crossings that are working hard this year! When Five Point Communities sparked the green light on construction in 2021, the drought in the Southwest was still in full swing. SPECS worked with Proactive Engineering to design a triple-barrel precast arch to convey flows, and the channel has been serving its purpose well in the past few months. In January, Irvine received nearly 6 inches of rainfall, compounded by over 3.5 inches in February and another 5.5 inches in March. Concrete cutoff walls and riprap protect the inlet and outlet of the structure from scour.
