As part of the renovation of the El Toro Air Base into Irvine’s Great Park, over 8,000 trees were uprooted and temporarily boxed until they could be planted as mature vegetation in the new community. Then the recession hit, and these enormous but starving trees were left to survive in their temporary homes. Several years later than planned, the mature trees of El Toro are finding a home in the Great Park.
